Instrumental Music At Diamond Path
WINTER BAND CONCERT: Thursday December 13, 2007 @ Diamond Path
Wednesday morning band rehearsals are off to a great start. This is a reminder to students and parents that we aim for
100% attendance at every rehearsal. If there is a conflict or illness and a student will miss band, please contact Mrs. Anderson
by e-Mail or voice mail (651-683-6969, x94303) to let her know.
Getting Started in Band
Diamond Path students begin their band experience in the spring of fourth grade. At that time the instrumental music teacher
helps the fourth graders choose an instrument, helps their parents arrange for the rental of that instrument, and sets up
a summer lesson schedule to give those students their beginning instruction.
Band Lessons
In the fall, as fifth graders, these students continue their instruction with 20 - 30 minute small group (2-3 students)
or individual weekly lessons. At home practice for these lesson is essential.
Band Rehearsals
During the first week of October, all of the new band members are joined together for their first weekly band rehearsal.
These rehearsals are held once a week for about an hour before school starts.
The rehearsal is where students learn the concepts of balance, blend, group precision, and musical style. Music is chosen
that will enable these concepts as well as many elements of music.
Concerts
The Diamond Path Fifth Grade Band will present two concerts during the year so that parents, friends and other relative
have the opportunity to hear their music and observe their progress. These concerts are usually given in mid-December and
late April or early May.
The concerts will each be presented twice on those days; once in the afternoon, for Diamond Path students and any family
or friends that can not attend the evening concert, and again at 7:00 P.M. This concert is open to the public and all are
welcome!
The Philosophy
At Diamond Path the students are treated as individuals and are allowed to progress according to their own ability and
effort. The band experience provides a wonderful opportunity for building self-confidence and self-discipline. Band members
also learn a great deal about music and have the wonderful thrill of making music together!
